 Το World Of Goo συγκαταλέγεται στην κατηγορία των games που ονομάζεται puzzle. Θα λέγαμε ότι το παιχνίδι από πλευράς gameplay αντιστοιχεί περισσότερο στην παλιά καλή σχολή, αυτήν που έβγαλε κλασσικά και διαχρονικά παιχνίδια όπως το Tetris. Κατ’ επέκταση, το μότο που περιγράφει καλύτερα την φιλοσοφία του παιχνιδιού, είναι το γνωστό στους παλαιότερους (και δη στους arcade gamers), “easy to play, hard to master”. Σε αρκετούς, μάλιστα, θα ξυπνήσει μνήμες από άλλο ένα παιχνίδι της ίδιας κατηγορίας, που έχει γράψει την δικιά του ιστορία στο χώρο του gaming: το Lemmings.
